In springtime, thickets of Juneberries dot the landscape with wonderful displays of white flowers.

This year we are offering seedlings of Amelanchier canadensis, a native juneberry with a wide range over the eastern US and Canada.

What Are Seedlings?

Seedlings are plants that have been grown directly from a seed. They are genetic individuals whose traits that are not exactly known. Seedlings are in contrast with plants which have been cloned, as cloned plants are sure to have certain characteristics.

Often seedlings share characteristics with their parents, but exactly how much is shared depends on the species of plant. Having good parents certainly doesn’t hurt!

These seeds come from a parent whose edible fruit is described as “blueberry with an almond aftertaste” [https://www.twisted-tree.net/seeds/juneberry]. Juneberries are reported to grow true to type (the seedlings are very similar to the parents), so expect some delicious fruit from these trees!

Juneberry is considered to be self-fruitful, but it never hurts to have two individuals of any tree to increase pollination!

Growth Parameters:

Expect a small / orchard sized tree of around 12 to 15 feet at maturity. Grows naturally in wetter areas
